Under supervision of the Manager, serves as an integral member of the health care team by performing patient care assignments, scheduling, clerical functions, and unit maintenance functions for the Ambulatory Treatment Unit. Must be computer literate with good keyboarding skills. Under minimal supervision and with accuracy, performs scheduling for patient appointments. Supports Registration staff with the intake process for new referrals as necessary. Manages the phone and fax systems efficiently and demonstrates the ability to multi-task effectively. Ensures excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
PATIENT CARE: Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives written and/or verbal assignments and direction. Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and/or information systems. Performs required clinical skills including but not limited to: Vital sign measurement; hand hygiene; specimen collection. Performs patient care tasks related to activities of daily living such as toileting and functional ambulation and transfers. Completes assigned patient duties within the time-frame established by the Registered Nurse or Manager. Gathers data including but not limited to: vital signs; patient height and weight. Assists with admission, transfer, or discharge of patients. Observes patients carefully for changes and reports in a timely manner. • STANDARDS: Utilizes information while upholding the policies and procedures of Holland Hospital to continuously improve patient care, safety, and practice to enhance outcomes. Maintains HIPAA compliance and Patient Bill of Rights Reports patient safety issues utilizing the occurrence reporting system. Able to describe the unit based quality improvement activities and implications for practice. Assists with data collection for quality improvement activities. Assists with the identification of actual and potential risks to patient safety. Achieves unit specific initial and ongoing competencies. • UNIT MAINTENANCE: Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks. Performs ongoing supplies inventory. Stocks and cleans patient care and clerical areas. Assists with regulatory checks as delegated. Maintains a neat, uncluttered environment in patient rooms and/or treatment areas. • Scheduling Manages referrals and performs scheduling of patient appointments according to department procedures and guidelines. Exercises critical thinking skills to prioritize patient scheduling based on the acuity of patient's diagnosis. Manages schedules that are responsive to patient convenience while also optimizing efficiency in line with department wide targets and goals. • Registration Duties Performs the complete new patient check-in process, including account activation immediately upon patient arrival. Obtains signatures on forms compliantly for general consent to treat and HIPAA. Collaborates with Manager and Registration staff via a teamwork approach, to identify and address any potential patient concerns regarding appointments, insurance benefits/authorization or billing. • Clerical Duties Updates all systems appropriately with canceled, no-show and/or changed appointment information. Exercises critical thinking skills to provide assistance and problem solve for internal and external customers. Completes patient discharge process in electronic health record. Performs file, chart, and forms maintenance. Functions as unit receptionist by promptly, politely, and professionally answering phone and greeting visitors. Assists with requests and facilitates communication between members of the health care team. –pharmacy, lab, blood bank, registration Demonstrates knowledge of computer downtime procedures. Performs other administrative duties as assigned.
