General Assistant (Worcester - Process) [South Africa]


 

Job Purpose:

Undertakes general manual labour activities associated with maintaining the Water and Wastewater Treatment Works, Pump Stations, Commodities, and Tanker services in accordance with laid down instructions to support acceptable standards of service delivery.


Duties:

  • Assist the Process Controller with daily duties.
  • Open blockages on pump and pipes to ensure continuous flow and prevent damage to the pumps.
  • Clean outside area of all external pump stations to maintain neat appearances and prevent health and safety risks to personnel.
  • Clean the sumps, grids and screenings from all external pump-stations.
  • Assist with pipe repair and replacement, and digging of trenches.
  • Assist with the dismantle and assemble pumps and motors for and after repair works under supervision of Supervisor.
  • Cut edges of lawns with lawn mower, weed eaters, pick-up and shuffle surroundings where needed to maintain neat appearance of the site.
  • Control the growth of all weeds on paved areas and gardens using weed killer spray and garden tools respectively to prevent growth.
  • Execution of all general housekeeping on whole premises, e.g. cleaning the area around the perimeter of the treatment works.
  • Responsible for the safe keeping and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Open, and close manholes and connect/disconnect pipes to truck
  • Open and close valves and start/ stop the pump to empty septic tank
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations as prescribed in Councils policies and enforced by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Minimum Requirements: 0 - 1 years’ experience required. Basic literacy.


Other Requirement: Proficiency in at least 2 of the official languages in the Western Cape

Preferred Requirement: Grade 8 and relevant experience in Water & Wastewater Treatment.

Personal Competencies:

Conducts self in accordance with organisational values and Shows willingness to learn new things and acquire knowledge.
