About the Role



An exciting opportunity exists to join the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Team in the role of Specialist Environment, supporting our Mining Area C and South Flank Operations. Reporting to the HSE Superintendent and working alongside Environment Specialist peers, you will be responsible for oversight and governance of a range of environmental management outcomes.


Responsibilities

  • Support line leaders in developing skills to deepen understanding and leadership on environmental management;
  • Execute meaningful time-in-field, verifying the effectiveness of environmental management controls;
  • Participation and coaching as environmental subject matter expert in risk register reviews, risk assessments, and determining effective controls;
  • Participate as subject matter expert in environment event investigations;
  • Ensure line leaders are equipped to respond to and manage environmental events and understand internal/external reporting obligations;
  • Utilise work management to administrate environmental approval obligations and meet reporting timeframes for event and compliance reporting;
  • Understand technical elements of key site environmental risks to articulate to risk owners, and inform site risk management processes;
  • Identify opportunities to simplify approvals to enable operations, and facilitate the Management of Change (MoC) process for new / amended approvals;
  • Ensure the availability of accurate environment data to enable risk owner decision making; and
  • Supervise contractors involved in the safe and productive execution of HSE managed work.

About You

You will be a confident, self-motivated professional with a passion for influencing and coaching to improve environmental performance. Your communication and engagement skills will be strong and you will have working knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislative frameworks and approval mechanisms.


The following would be advantageous:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental management, risk management or a related field;
  • Prior experience in environmental management in heavy industry;
  • Experience and understanding of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems and supporting tools including GIS systems and environmental monitoring / compliance databases; and
  • Minimum of C class Western Australia (or equivalent) drivers’ licence

Location
You will be based at our Mining Area C operation on a fly-in fly-out roster (five days on, two days off, four days on, three days off). Flexible work options are available and encouraged, and we welcome a discussion on the flexible working options available for this role.
