Institute for Information Systems and New Media
Part-time, 20 hours/week
Starting October 1, 2023, and limited until September 30, 2028

You have decided to pursue an academic career and want to conduct research, teach, and be an
active member of the scientific community in your field? This position is the next step in your
career in research and teaching.

What to expect

  • Independent research work: You will be expected to work in the fields of Complex Systems, Distributed and Decentralized Systems, and Software Engineering. You will be publishing your findings in top venues of these fields.
  • Teaching: You will be planning and teaching courses and holding exams, especially in German-taught study programs at WU, but potentially also in English.
  • Student support: You will be available to answer students’ questions in German and act as an advisor for Bachelor’s theses and as a co-advisor for Master’s theses.
  • Organizational and administrative support: You will be organizing and evaluating teaching activities, planning exams, and acquiring third-party funding.
  • Learning from top researchers: You will be working together with renowned researchers in your field and learning from them.
  • Teamwork: At the institute, you’ll be working to advance research in your field together with an experienced team.
  • Building up a professional network: You will be using the post-doc phase to establish yourself as a researcher and expand your own professional network.

What you have to offer

  • A completed PhD or doctoral degree or close to completing a PhD or doctoral degree. You have graduated with excellent grades from a PhD or doctoral degree program on Computer Science, Business Informatics (Information Systems, Business Informatics, Data Science), Information Technology, Software Engineering, or Social and Economic Sciences (with a major in applied Computer Science, Data Science, Business Informatics).
  • First academic papers: You have already published academic papers in publication outlets in the fields of Complex Systems, Distributed and Decentralized Systems, Process Mining, or Software Engineering. Journal papers under review or in R&R stage are a plus.
  • Language skills: Excellent German and English are a requirement.
  • Teaching experience: Experience with teaching classes in tertiary higher-ed institutions relevant to our study programs (Bachelor and Master level) in German is a must (e.g. Business Information Systems, Data Communication and Computer Networks, or Formal Foundations of Information Systems).
  • Experience with co-supervising student theses: Experience with co-supervising Bachelor’s and/or Master’s theses is a must.
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2.175,95 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
