We are currently looking for a Senior Specialist International Affairs (0,8 fte / 30 uur)

The Fair, Green & Global alliance is a collaborative programme by eight members and aims to increase the power and decision-making influence of organised, mobilised and informed civil society organisations (CSOs) to advance fair and green trade and value chains.
The programme focuses on strengthening capacities and creating space for CSOs to set agendas and directly lobby and advocate towards governments and private sector, specifically the oil and gas sector.
Milieudefensie, as part of the Friends of the Earth global network, collaborates within this programme with several FoE groups and other CSOs in the Global South.
The aim of this role is to enhance collaboration with CSOs and support Milieudefensie programmes of work on the oil and gas sector, including ‘Keep it in the Ground’ (no new oil & gas projects) and fossil fuel subsidies.

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Initiate collaboration with relevant FoE groups and other CSOs in the Global South in support of the ‘Keep it in the Ground’ project and related work of Milieudefensie.
  • Identify and advise on potential new CSO partner organisations in the Global South for Milieudefensie’s programmes of work related to the oil and gas sector.
  • Collaborate with Milieudefensie colleagues to strategise and carry out communication and (inter)national lobby.
  • Contribute to fundraising activities in the context of the Fair, Green and Global programme.
  • Facilitate and support provision of stories, testimonies and key information from Southern groups on planned expansion of oil and gas projects in the Global South.
  • Facilitate and support networking among the different CSOs towards regional and/or thematic collaboration on the oil and gas sector and fossil fuel subsidies.
  • Facilitate exchange between Milieudefensie’s team and Southern CSOs so as to ensure sharing of knowledge and key lessons in support of potential court cases against the oil and gas industry.
  • Contract management of partner organisations in Latin America and Africa.
  • Contribute to the Annual Planning, Monitoring and Reporting cycle of the Fair, Green and Global Alliance including through translating & summarizing project reports from partner organisations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences or International Development.
  • Over 5 years of work experience in international context, focused on international cooperation, including with CSOs in the Global South.
  • Good understanding of the key role of, and challenges faced by, civil society organisations in the Global South.
  • Knowledge of the state of affairs regarding the climate crisis, the role of the oil & gas industry, global energy transition and international campaigns on these topics.
  • At least 2 years experience in project management including contract management, planning and reporting.
  • Strong team worker, connector and communicator.
  • Dutch, English & Spanish language skills (understanding, reading, speaking).
  • Experience in fundraising and development of project proposals is preferred.

With whom you will collaborate

You will be part of the International department within Milieudefensie and will report to the Head of this department. You will also collaborate closely with colleagues of the Content & Lobby department and other teams within the organisation. You will collaborate with partner organisations within the Fair, Green & Global Alliance and within the Friends of the Earth international network.

What does your working day look like?
Work in this position is very diverse. You will spend much time communicating and coordinating with the CSO partners in the Global South and with your colleagues at Milieudefensie. There will be days largely filled with (online) meetings, days devoted to writing a report or story and there will be days when you have to cancel your initial plan due to an important policy or lobby event. Some international travel might be involved.

  • A temporary contract (one year).
  • A salary, depending on your knowledge and experience, between €3.682 and €5.069 based on a full-time position. At Milieudefensie, full-time is 37.5 hours.
  • A temporary gross allowance of €100 based on a full-time position (until December 2023).
