Pedestrian Group is on the lookout for a Multimedia Producer to join the team behind Kotaku Australia, the local arm of the globally beloved and respected gaming publisher of the same name.
Reporting to the Editor and working closely with the Pedestrian Group Publisher, this position is best suited to someone just as comfortable writing stories and reviews as they are delivering content in front of the camera for vertical video.
They will live and breathe the dynamism of the gaming world and all its adjacent industries – with a particular focus on the local community of creators in Australia – and is tapped into fandoms and associated cultures to tell stories not just about the games themselves, but the people who make them and the people who play them as well.
Day to day you will:
- Work closely with the editor to uncover new areas of opportunity for coverage, helping set the news agenda for Kotaku Australia.
- Produce and write local news stories for Kotaku Australia, covering everything from the latest game releases to industry news and major events.
- Translate trends from YouTube, Twitch, Discord, and TikTok – as well as other gaming communities – to pitch spicy stories relevant to our audience’s interests.
- Write in-depth features that are funny, fresh, and unique – stuff that goes beyond the typical reviews, previews, or news cycle.
- Create content specifically for Kotaku Australia’s social media channels, including vertical video for TikTok and Instagram.
- Participate in, and help curate, Kotaku Australia’s weekly gaming news podcast (includes on-camera appearances).
- Participate in, and help curate, Kotaku Australia-hosted live streams as needed.
- Attend, participate in, and cover large industry events (such as PAX or Melbourne International Games Week), which may involve travel and work out-of-hours as needed.
- Schedule both local and US content to the site and the site’s social channels.
- Participate in brainstorms for commercial content as needed.
This is a full-time position ideally based in Pedestrian Group’s offices in either Sydney or Melbourne, however a remote position will be considered for the right candidate.
The position calls for someone with:
- 1-2 years’ experience in a similar writer/producer role, ideally in a newsroom environment.
- Interest in, and knowledge of, gaming and industry trends in Australia.
- A demonstrated understanding of the gaming industry in Australia, the key players within it, and the regulatory framework that binds it.
- Excellent attention to detail, and the ability to sort fact from fiction.
- Basic knowledge of SEO best practices (preferred, but not mandatory).
- Experience using a CMS and social media management tools (preferred, but not mandatory).
